In April 2003, a group of Bay Area individuals and organizations came together under the umbrella name
“Priority Africa Network.”

Recognizing that historically Africa has never been top agenda to the US, PAN addresses the urgent need to prioritize our work around issues of globalization, HIV/AIDS and debt cancellation focused on Africa.  PAN’s mission reflects the unifying values and principles of Network members to maximize our collective force to advocate for change in Africa by organizing regionally in the Bay Area, working in collboration with our partners nationwide.

Advocating for Africa in the US has always been a challenge.  But member-organizations have a history of stepping up to such challenges – similar to the anti-apartheid movement which led to the defeat of the minority-led government in South Africa.  Given the history of the unique contribution of Bay Area organizations to solidarity and support for African civil society, our collective forces can and will make a difference to bring to reality the vision of our statement.
